Phylum Proteobacteria, Class Gammaproteobacteria, Order Vibrionales, Family Vibrionaceae, Genus Vibrio, Vibrio rarus  Sawabe,
Fujimura, Niwa and Aono, 2007.

One strain tested, the type strain RW22T.
Gram-negative, rod-shaped cells, with rounded ends, 0.5-1.0 x 1.2-2.0 μm. Nonmotile,
nonflagellated. No endospores or capsules are formed.
Can grow in nutrient broth with 6% NaCl. No growth in 0% or 1% NaCl. Growth occur
at 15 to 30 ºC. No growth at 37 ºC. Colonies on agar (ZoBell 2216E) are smooth,
beige, convex. Colonies are green on TCBS agar (selective media : thiosulfate-
citrate-bile salts-sucrose agar). Facultatively anaerobic, mesophilic, neutrophilic,
chemo-organotroph. No luminescence.
Isolated from the gut of the Californian red abalone (Haliotis rufescens).
Susceptible to vibriostatic agent O/157.
Unknown.
