Divided in two groups / biotypes (1 and 2).

Synonyms:
Beneckea pelagia  Baumann, Baumann and Mandel 1971; Listonella pelagia MacDonell and Colwell, 1985.
Gram-negative, straight rods (biotype 1) and curved rods (biotype 2), motile by
monotrichous flagella. Not swarming on complex media.  No lateral flagella on solid
media.
Can grow in nutrient broth with: 1% NaCl, 6% NaCl & 8% NaCl (biotype 1). No growth
in 0% NaCl, 8% NaCl (biotype 2), 10% NaCl & 12% NaCl. Optimal growth
temperature 30-35 ºC. Variable growth at 4 ºC. Variable hemolysis on blood agar at
37 ºC (3 from 11 strains). No PHB accumulation. No luminescence.
Isolated from seawater of the coast of Hawaii.
Unknown.
