arbutin, cellobiose, D-fructose, D-galactose, D-glucose, glycerol (weak reaction), lactose, D-mannose, mannitol, maltose, melibiose,
melezitose (weak reaction), raffinose, salicin, sorbitol, sucrose, D-tagatose, turanose (weak reaction) & trehalose.
Negative results for arginine hydrolysis, catalase, lipase, trypsin, chymotrypsin, alpha-galactosidase, beta-galactosidase,
beta-glucuronidase, N-acetyl-beta-glucosaminidase, alpha-mannosidase, alpha-fucosidase, acid production from: D-adonitol,
amygdalin, D- or L-arabinose, D- or L-arabitol, dulcitol, erythritol, D- or L-fucose, gluconate, glycogen, gentiobiose, inositol, inulin,
methyl alpha-D-mannopyranoside, methyl alpha-D-glucopyranoside, methyl beta-D-xylopyranoside, 2- or 5-ketogluconate, D-lyxose,
L-rhamnose, D-ribose, L-sorbose, starch, xylitol & D- or L-xylose.
Alkaline phosphatase is positive in API ZYM and negative in API Rapid ID 32 Strep.

Gram-positive cocci, 0.5-0.7 μm in diameter, occurring in pairs and short chains.
Colonies are white, alpha-haemolytic and 0.7-1.0 mm in diameter after incubation on
blood agar at 37 ºC for 24 hours. On Mitis-Salivarius agar, colonies are small, dark
blue and crinkled. Facultatively anaerobic.
Produce an extracellular polysaccharide.
Isolated from the oral cavity of chimpanzee (Pan troglodytes), Kyoto University. Resistant to to bacitracin (0.2 units/ml).
