Genus Pseudomonas, Pseudomonas aromaticivorans Banerjee et al. 2023.
Species description is based on a single isolate.
Gram-negative rods, 0.6-0.8 x 2.2-2.5 μm. Motile by a polar flagellum. Non-spore-
forming.
Colonies are colorless, circular after incubation for 2-3 days on R2A agar at 28 ºC.
Grows at 4-45 ºC (optimum 28 ºC), at pH 5-12 (optimum pH 7) and in the presence of
0-6% NaCl (optimum 1-4% NaCl). Aerobic.
Isolated from microaerobic xylene-degrading enrichment culture inoculated with contaminated groundwater sample of the Siklos
BTEX contaminated site, Hungary.
Can degrade benzene, toluene, m- and p-xylene, but not o-xylene or ethylbenzene.
Undetermined.

Positive results for acid phosphatase, catalase, esculin hydrolysis, esterase (C4), esterase lipase (C8), indole production, leucine
arylamidase (weak), methyl-red test, naphthol-AS-BI-phosphohydrolase, oxidase, trypsin (weak) and urease.
Can assimilate (API 20 NE): D-glucose, D-mannose, adipic acid and malic acid.
Can utilize: glycerol, D-fructose, inositol, esculin ferric citrate and D-arabitol.
Negative results for alkaline phosphatase, cystine arylamidase, alpha-fucosidase, gelatin (protease) hydrolisys, alpha- and
beta-galactosidase, beta-glucunoridase, alpha- and beta-glucosidase, N-acetyl-beta-glucosaminidase, alpha-mannosidase and
nitrate reduction.
No assimilation of trisodium citrate.
