Phylum Pseudomonadota (Proteobacteria), Class Flavobacteriia, Order Flavobacteriales, Family Flavobacteriaceae, Genus
Coenonia, Allocoenonia anatina (Vandamme et al. 1999) Oren and Molinari Novoa 2024, type species of the genus.
Synonyms: Riemerella anatipestifer – like Taxon 1502 Hinz et al., 1998, Coenonia anatina Vandamme, Vancanneyt, Segers, Ryll,
Kohler, Ludwig and Hinz, 1999.
Gram-negative rods, 0.2-0.4/1.2-2.5 µm; some cells are spherically swollen, spindle-
or lemon shaped and arranged in short chains. Nonmotile. Non-spore-forming.
Colonies are smooth, non-pigmented to whitish, flat-convex after 16-24 h of
incubation on 7% sheep blood Columbia agar under micro-aerophilic conditions
(3-5% CO2) at 37 ºC. Grows on conventional media. Non-haemolytic. Grows at: 36-37
ºC, optimum. No growth in aerobic conditions. Grows well in microaerobic conditions.
Growth is weak in anaerobic conditions. No growth on MacConkey agar.
Isolated from respiratory tract (lungs, airsac, pericard) and brain of ducks and geese, in association with signs similar to those of
Riemerella anatipestifer-associated exsudative septicaemia.
Associated with respiratory disease in ducks and geese, similar to Riemerella anatipestifer-associated exsudative septicaemia.
