Phylum Pseudomonadota (Proteobacteria), Class Gammaproteobacteria, Order Pasteurellales, Family Pasteurellaceae, Genus
Basfia,
Basfia succiniciproducens Kuhnert et al. 2010,  type species of the genus.
Gram-negative, coccoid rods. Non-motile.
Colonies on blood agar are 0.1-0.5 mm in diameter, shiny and greyish after 24 hours
at 37 ºC. Non-haemolytic. Do not require NAD or haemin for growth. Facultatively
anaerobic. Capnophilic. Produce significant amounts of succinic acid under
anaerobic conditions with glucose as substrate.
Isolated from the bovine rumen of a Simmental cow in Switzerland..
Part of the normal flora of the bovine rumen. No toxicity towards lymphoid bovine and human cells or fish cells, and no RTX toxin
genes observed.
