Gram-negative, 0.5-1.0 x 1.0-3.0 µm, rods presenting hairlike pili and flagella.
Growth temperature is 10-45 ºC (optimum temperature is 37 ºC). Grows in the
presence of up to 15% (w/v) NaCl (optimum 1% NaCl) and pH  4-9.
Isolated from a clinical sample of faeces in Tianjin city, China.

N-acetyl
glucosamine, D-ribose, sucrose, trehalose, turanose, and xylose.

Negative results for citrate utilization, esculin hydrolysis, esterase, lipase, ornithine decarboxylase, trypsin, valine arylamidase, acid
productionfrom amygdalin, L-arabinose, D-adonitol,  D- and L-arabitol, arbutin, D-celiobiose, dulcitol, esculin, erythritol, D- and
L-fucose, gentiobiose, glycogen, inositol, inulin, 5-ketogluconate, D-lactose, D-lyxose, D-mannose, D-mannitol, D-melibiose,
methyl-alpha-D-mannopyranoside, D-raffinose, rhamnose, salicin, D-sorbitol, L-sorbose, starch, D-tagatose, xylitol, L-xylose, and
methyl-beta-D-xylopyranoside.

Variable results for esterase lipase, indole production and acid production from 2-ketogluconate.
