Gram-negative rods.
Maximum temperature for growth is 38-39 ºC in Luria-Bertani broth. Luminescence is
produced. One of the two described strains produces a pink pigment; the other is not
pigmented.
Isolated from the nematode Heterorhabditis bacteriophora.
Undetermined.

Positive results for citrate utilization (Simmons), DNase (weak), esculin hydrolysis, gelatin hydrolysis, urease, acid production from
esculin, fructose, L-fucose, glycerol, glucose, inositol, maltose, mannose, mannitol (weak), N-acetylglucosamine and ribose.
Can assimilate
citrate, L-malate, gluconate, inositol, mannitol, and trehalose.

Negative results for lecithinase activiity, Voges-Proskauer test, acid production from adonitol, salicin, sorbitol, and  xylitol.
No assimilation of N-acetylglucosamine
, and xylitol.

Variable results for arginine dihydrolase, indole production, acid production from 5-ketogluconae and trehalose.
Variable assimilation of
caprate, esculin, and L-fucose.
