Gram-positive rods, 0.4-0.5 / 1.5-2.5 µm, occurring singly. Non-spore-forming.
Non-motile.
Colonies are smooth, convex, beige, circular with entire edges, and 1 mm in diameter
on MRS agar after 3 days incubation at 37 ºC under anaerobic conditions. Growth is
good under anaerobic and microaerophilic conditions and weak under aerobic
condition. Optimum growth temperature is 37 ºC, range 25-48 ºC. Grows at pH 3.5-8.5
(optimum pH 5.5).
Isolated from Bangladeshi weaning infants.

(weak), sucrose, turanose and xylose.
Negative results for catalase, oxidase, acid production from: adonitol, amygdalin, cellobiose, dulcitol, aesculin, erythritol, D-fucose,
gluconate, 2- and 5-ketogluconate, D-glucosamine, D-glucuronate, glycerol, inositol, inulin, D-mannitol, melezitose,
alpha-methyl-D-mannoside, rhamnose, D-sorbitol, starch, trehalose and xylan.
