Phylum Bacillota (Firmicutes), Class Bacilli, Order Caryophanales, Family Bacillaceae, Genus Bacillus, Bacillus australimaris Liu et
al. 2016.
Species description is based on a single isolate.
Gram-positive rods, 0.7-0.8 x 2-2.2 µm. Motile by subpolar flagella. Endospores were
not observed.
Colonies are light yellow, circular, translucent and 2-3 mm in diameter after incubation
at 32 ºC for 48 h on LB medium. Growth occurs at 8-45 ºC (optimum 30-37 ºC), at pH
5-11 (optimum pH 6-8) and with 0-12 % (w/v) NaCl (optimum 1-3 %). Strictly aerobic.
Isolated from sediment of the South China Sea.

Can utilize (API 20 NE): D-glucose, L-arabinose, D-mannitol, D-mannose, N-acetylglucosamine, trisodium citrate, malic acid (weak)
and potassium gluconate (weak).

production, alpha-mannosidase, leucine aminopeptidase, lysine decarboxylase, nitrate reduction, N-acetyl-beta-glucosaminidase,
ornithine decarboxylase, trypsin, tryptophan deaminase, urease, valine aminopeptidase, acid production from: D-adonitol,
D-arabinose, D- and L-arabitol, dulcitol, erythritol, D- and L-fucose, D-galactose, gluconate, glycogen, 2- and 5-ketogluconate inulin,
