Gram-negative rods, 2.4–3.6 x 0.9 µm, singly or grouped in pairs or short chains.
Nonmotile.
Facultative anaerobe. Optimum temperature for growth is 22 ºC, ranging from 15 to 37
ºC. Grows at  pH 5.5–8.5 (optimum, pH 7.5). Does not require vitamins or yeast extract
for growth.
Isolated from anoxic freshwater sediment.

Negative results for alkaline phosphatase, arginine dihydrolase, indole production, beta-galactosidase-6-phosphate,
alpha-arabinosidase, beta-glucuronidase, N-acetyl-beta-glucosaminidase, glutamic acid decarboxylase, alpha-fucosidase, proline
arylamidase, leucyl glycine arylamidase, phenylalanine arylamidase, pyroglutamic acid arylamidase, tyrosine arylamidase, histidine
arylamidase, glutamyl glutamic acid arylamidase, cellulose hydrolysis, gelatin hydrolysis, chitin hydrolysis, nitrate reduction, starch
hydrolysis & sulfate reduction.

Can grow on glucose, fructose, cellobiose, melezitose, maltose, lactose, galactose, sucrose, ribose, raffinose, melibiose, trehalose,
mannose, turanose, glycogen, mannitol, sorbitol, amygdalin, pyruvate, fumarate, salicin, aesculin, inulin, N-acetyl-D-glucosamine&
yeast extract substrates.
Cannot grow on arabinose, xylose, glycerol, starch, inositol, adonitol, malate, glycolate, choline, betaine, trimethylamine, formate,
acetate, propionate, butyrate, lactate, succinate, methanol, ethanol, n-propanol, n-butanol, peptone & tryptone substrates.
