Phylum Bacillota (Firmicutes), Class Bacilli, Order Lactobacillales, Family Aerococcaceae, Genus Facklamia, Facklamia lactis Doll et

Gram-positive, slightly ellipsoid cocci, 0.9 x 1.2 µm, occuring as single cells, in pairs
or short chains. Non-motile. Non-spore-forming.
Colonies on BHI+Y for 3 days at 32 ºC are white, irregularly sized of less than 1mm
diameter. Slightly alpha-haemolytic on Columbia medium with 5% sheep blood after
4 days at 32 ºC. Grows at temperatures of 10-40 ºC and salt concentrations of up to
7.0% (w/v) NaCl. Optimal conditions are 30-34 ºC and 1.0% (w/v) NaCl. Facultatively
anaerobic.
Isolated from bovine raw milk in Germany.
