Phylum Actinobacteria, Class Actinobacteria, Subclass Actibacteridae, Order Actynomycetales, Suborder Actinomycinae, Family
Actinomycetaceae, Genus Actinomyces, Actinomyces funkei Lawson, Nikolaitchouk, Falsen, Westling and Collins 2002.
Gram-positive slender, straight to slightly curved rods, some of which exhibit
branching. Non-motile. Non-spore-forming.
Colonies are small (< 1 mm in diameter after 24 h), grey and non-haemolytic on
Columbia agar (Difco) supplemented with 5% horse blood in air plus 5% CO2, at 37
ºC. Facultative anaerobic.
Isolated from human clinical specimens. Habitat is not known.
