Actinomycetaceae, Genus Actinomyces, Actinomyces denticolens Dent and Williams 1984.
Gram-positive rods, 0.7 / 5.0 µm. Non-motile. Non-spore-forming. Non-acid-fast.
Colonies on horse blood agar are slightly pink (anaerobic) or white (aerobic), convex,
smooth and circular. Grows in BHI broth at 37 ºC. Not haemolytic. Facultatively
anaerobic.
Isolated from the dental plaque of cattle and sow chronic (pyo)granulomatous mastitis.
May be involved in chronic mastitis and dental plaque.

lactose, maltose, raffinose, salicin and sucrose.
Negative results for alkaline phosphatase, catalase, esterase C4, alpha-fucosidase, N-acetyl-beta-glucosaminidase,
beta-glucuronidase, lipase C16, alpha-mannosidase, acid production from: L-arabinose, sorbitol, trehalose and D-xylose.
Variable results for acid phosphatase, alpha-galactosidase, beta-glucosidase, acid production from: amygdalin, cellobiose, glycerol,
inositol, inulin, mannitol, mannose, melezitose, rhamnose (weak reaction) and ribose.
