Phylum Actinobacteria, Class Actinobacteria, Subclass Actibacteridae, Order Actynomycetales, Suborder Actinomycinae, Family
Actinomycetaceae, Genus Actinomyces, Actinomyces canis Hoyles, Falsen, Foster, Pascual, Greko and Collins 2000.
Gram-positive straight and slightly curved rods, some of which with branching.
It was cultured on Columbia agar (Difco) supplemented with 5% horse blood at 37 ºC
in air plus 5% CO2. Facultative anaerobic.
Isolated from dog clinical specimens. Habitat is not known.
Isolated from vagina of a dog with infertility, from chest purulent material from a bitch with fatal pyogranulomatous pleurisy and from a
subcutaneous abscess. The microorganism was isolated in mixed culture with Pasteurella spp., Streptococcus spp., Bacteroides
spp., or Fusobacterium spp.
