Phylum Actinobacteria, Class Actinobacteria, Subclass Actibacteridae, Order Actynomycetales, Suborder Actinomycinae, Family
Actinomycetaceae, Genus Actinomyces, Actinomyces bowdenii Pascual, Foster, Falsen, Bergström, Greko and Collins 1999.
Gram-positive straight and slightly curved rods, some of which with branching; 2.0-4.0
µm in length. Non-motile.
Colonies are greyish-white, 2 mm in diameter after 24-48 h of aerobic incubation on
sheep blood agar. CO2 enrichment or anaerobiosis do not enhance growth.
Non-haemolytic. Facultative anaerobic. Grows at 37 ºC.
Habitat is not known. Isolated from canine and feline clinical specimens.
Isolated from canine and feline clinical specimens (abscess, pleural fluid).
