Rogosa selective Lactobacillus agar
Streptococcus equinus & Streptococcus gallolyticus selective medium.
Composition per liter:
Agar 15.0 g, Sodium acetate 15.0 g, Glucose 10.0 g, Casein (digested) 10.0 g,
K2HPO4 6.0 g, Yeast extract 5.0 g, Arabinose 5.0 g, Saccharose 5.0 g, Ammonium
citrate 2.0 g, Sorbitan monooleate 1.0 g, MgSO4 *7H2O 0.57 g, MnSO4.7H2O 0.12 g,
FeSO4.H2O 0.03 g, Acetic acid (glacial) 1.32 ml.
QUALITY CONTROL
Incubate 3 days at 35 ºC or 5 days at 30 ºC, better in CO2 -enriched atmosphere.
Lactobacillus gasseri ATCC 19992: good growth; yellow colonies.
Escherichia coli ATCC 25922: no growth.
Bacillus cereus ATCC 11778: no grow.
COMPOSITION
Peptone 10 g, Meat extract 8 g, Yeast extract 4 g, Glucose 20 g, Sodium acetate 3H2O
5 g, Tween 80 1 g, Dipotassium hydrogen phosphate 2 g, Triammonium citrate 2 g,
Magnesium sulfate 7H2O 0.2 g, Manganese sulphate 4H2O 0.05 g, Agar 10 g, H2O ad
1000 ml, Final pH 6.2 at 25 °C.
Sterilize by autoclaving at 118 ºC for 15 minutes. Aspect: medium to dark amber
coloured, clear to slightly opalescent.
DESCRIPTION
A special medium containing growth factors for lactic acid bacteria (Lactobacillus spp.
and related germs) from dairy products, foods, feces and other sources.
