Gram-negative, straight rods, motile by a single polar flagellum and occasionally 2-3
flagella. Presenting lateral flagella on solid media. Not swarming on complex media.
Colonies are regular, non-pigmented on marine agar and yellow on TCBS agar
(saccharose positive). Not luminescent.
Can grow in nutrient broth with: 1% NaCl, 6% NaCl, 8% NaCl and 10% NaCl (rarely).
No growth in 0% NaCl & 12% NaCl. Temperature 4 ºC - 40 ºC.
Isolated from salt marsh mud and coastal seawater. Resistant to O/129 vibriostatic agent (10 µg).
Unknown.

Positive results for nitrate reduction to nitrite, oxidase, lipase, esculin hydrolysis, acid production from: D-glucose, L-arabinose,
D-arabitol, cellobiose, maltose, D-mannitol, L-rhamnose, salicin, sucrose & trehalose.

Negative results for indole (Heart Infusion Broth, 1% NaCl), Voges-Proskauer (1% NaCl), arginine (1% NaCl), lysine (1% NaCl),
ornithine (1% NaCl), gas production from D-glucose, acid production from: D-adonitol, dulcitol, myo-inositol, lactose, D-sorbitol &
D-xylose.

Variable results for gelatin hydrolysis (1% NaCl, 22 ºC), urea hydrolysis, ONPG test, acid production from: D-galactose,  D-mannose,
melibiose & raffinose.
