Gram-negative, straight or curved, small cells 0.5-2.0 µm, motile, presenting a
sheathed polar flagellum in broth and lateral flagella on solid media. No swarming on
complex media.
Colonies on Marine Agar are flat, circular, and off-white. Non-hemolytic.
Can grow in nutrient broth with: 1%, 6%, 8%, 10% NaCl. No growth in 0% or 12%
NaCl medium. Growth temperature 4-40 ºC. Facultatively anaerobic. Medium used:
Marine Agar (Difco). Nitrogen-fixing bacteria.
Estuarine and marine environments.
Isolated from the intestinal tract of sea urchins, river water, ditch water and sediment and the surface of reeds growing in a drainage
ditch. Very rarely solated  from human clinical specimens (blood).
Sensible to O/129 vibriostaic agent (150 µg).
May occur in human clinical specimens (blood).
