Non-groupable with Lancefield antisera (A, B, C, D, E, F or G).
Gram-positive, ovoid shaped cells, grouped in short chains. Nonmotile. Spores are
not produced.
Colonies are nonpigmented and nonhemolytic on blood agar. Grow at 37 and 45 ºC,
not at 10 ºC. Facultatively anaerobic. Bile-esculin-positive, can grow in broth
containing 6.5% NaCl. Other media: Trypticase Soy Agar with 5% sheep blood, Brain
Heart Infusion agar or broth. Extracellular polysaccharide is not produced.
Isolated from human urine. Sensitive to vancomycin, and resistant to bacitracin.
Unknown. Strains have been isolated from the urine of patients suffering from cystitis.
