Streptococcus troglodytidis
Results are based on RapID 32 Strep and API 20 Strep identification kits.

Positive results for arginine hydrolysis, alkaline phosphatase, esculin hydrolysis, beta-glucosidase, Voges-Proskauer test, acid
production from: inulin, lactose, maltose & trehalose.

Negative results for N-acetyl-beta-glucosaminidase, catalase, hippurate hydrolysis, alpha-galactosidase, beta-galactosidase,
beta-glucuronidase, alpha-glucosidase, indole production,  leucine aminopeptidase, pyrolidonyl arylamidase, oxidase, urease, acid
production from: arabinose, glycogen, mannitol, melibiose, melezitose, raffinose, ribose, sorbitol & starch.

Reacts with Lancefield group B antisera.
Gram-positive cocci, 0.5-1.0 μm in diameter grouped in pairs and short chains. Non-
spore-forming. Non-motile.
Colonies on blood agar are small (0.5-1.0 mm), opaque, convex and entire with a
large zone of complete haemolysis after 48 h incubation at 37 ºC. Facultatively
anaerobic. Require 5-10% CO
2 for optimal growth.
