|Streptococcus porcorum Gram staining
|Streptococcus porcorum colonies
on Sheep Blood Agar
Phylum Firmicutes, Class Bacilli, Order Lactobacillales, Family Streptococcaceae, Genus Streptococcus, Streptococcus porcorum
Vela et al. 2011.
Does not react with Lancefield group A, B, C, D, F or G.
Gram-positive cocci, 0.5-1 μm in diameter, grouped in pairs or chains, nonmotile.
Alpha-hemolytic, small, 0.75-1.0 mm in diameter, regular, non-pigmented colonies.
Grow at 10, 37 and 42 ºC. Facultatively anaerobic. Does not grow in the presence of
3.0%, 4.5% or 6.5% NaCl.
Habitat is not well known. Isolated from pigs (lungs, joint).
The type strain was isolated from a joint of a pig with arthritis. Two lungs isolates from pigs with pneumonia.
One strain was isolated from pig rectal swab (admin note).
