Does not react with Lancefield group A, B, C, D, F or G.
Gram-positive cocci, 0.5-1 μm in diameter, grouped in pairs or chains, nonmotile.
Alpha-hemolytic, small, 0.75-1.0 mm in diameter, regular, non-pigmented colonies.
Grow at 10, 37 and 42 ºC. Facultatively anaerobic. Does not grow in the presence of
3.0%, 4.5% or 6.5% NaCl.
Habitat is not well known. Isolated from pigs (lungs, joint).
The type strain was isolated from a joint of a pig with arthritis. Two lungs isolates from pigs with pneumonia.
One strain was isolated from pig rectal swab (admin note).

Positive results for leucine arylamidase, acid phosphatase, beta-glucosidase,
alanine-phenylalanine-proline arylamidase, acid production from: arbutin, amygdalin,
N-acetylglucosamine, esculin, cellobiose, D-fructose, gentiobiose, methyl beta-D-
glucopyranoside, D-galactose, D-glucose, lactose, maltose, D-mannose, raffinose
(most strains), salicin, sucrose and trehalose.

Negative results for alkaline phosphatase, arginine hydrolysis, catalase,
alpha-galactosidase (most strains), beta-glucuronidase, hippurate hydrolysis, urea
hydrolysiss, Voges-Proskauer reaction (most strains), N-acetyl
beta-glucosaminidase, naphthol-AS-BI-phosphohydrolase, alpha-mannosidase,
alpha-fucosidase, esterase (C4), esterase lipase (C8), lipase (C14), valine
arylamidase, beta-galactosidase, alpha-glucosidase, cystine arylamidase, trypsin,
alpha-chymotrypsin, glycyl-tryptophan arylamidase, beta-mannosidase,  pyroglutamic
acid arylamidase, acid production from: D-adonitol, L- or D-arabitol, L- or
D-arabinose, cyclodextrin, dulcitol, erythritol, D- or L-fucose, glycerol, glycogen,
inositol, inulin (most strains), 2- or 5-ketogluconate, D-lyxose, D-mannitol, melezitose,
melibiose, methyl alpha-D-mannopyranoside, methyl alpha-D-glucopyranoside,
methyl beta-D-xylopyranoside, pullulan, L-rhamnose, D-ribose, D-sorbitol, L-sorbose,
starch, tagatose, turanose, D- or L-xylose and xylitol.
