Lancefield group B.
Gram positive cocci, 0.3-0.5 μm in diameter, grouped in short chains (3-8 cells) or
pairs. Nonmotile. Nonspore-forming.
Colonies on blood agar are small, circular and non-pigmented, 0.75-1.0 mm in
diameter and alpha-haemolytic. Facultatively anaerobic. Grow at 37.0 ºC, not at 10 or
45 ºC. Grow at pH 9.6. No growth in 6.5% NaCl media.
Habitat is unknown. The type strain was isolated from the heart of a pig with pericarditis.
Uncertain; may induce pericarditis in pigs.
