Description is based on a single isolate.
Gram-positive cocci, forming small groups. Non-spore-forming.
Colonies on brain heart infusion agar supplemented with 5% horse blood are about
0.5-0.8 mm in diameter, yellow-golden, round with raised margin, smooth, convex
and non-haemolytic at 37 ºC. Grows well under aerobic and microaerobic conditions
at 25, 30, 37 and 45 ºC but not at 10 ºC.
Isolated from raw camel milk in the north of Morocco.

Most tests were performed using API 50 CHL and API 20 Strep kits.
Positive results for leucine aminopeptidase, alpha-galactosidase, aesculin hydrolysis, acid production from: L-arabinose, arbutin,
amygdalin, cellobiose, fructose, galactose, glucose, gentiobiose, N-acetylglucosamine, inulin, lactose, melezitose, D-mannose,
L-rhamnose, salicin, sucrose, trehalose & D-xylose,
Negative for alkaline phosphatase, arginine dihydrolase, catalase, beta-glucuronidase, beta-galactosidase, hippuricase, oxidase,
pyrrolidonyl arylamidase, Voges-Proskauer reaction, acid production from: D-arabinose, DL-arabitol, adonitol, dulcitol, erythritol,
DL-fucose, gluconate, 2- and 5-ketogluconate, glycerol, glycogen, methyl alpha-D-glucoside, inositol, D-lyxose, D-mannitol,
melibiose, D-maltose, methyl alpha-D-mannoside, raffinose, D-ribose, sorbitol, sorbose, starch, D-tagatose, turanose, xylitol,
L-xylose & methyl beta-D-xyloside.
