Gram-positive cocci, grouped in pairs and short chains.
Grow at 37 ºC. Aerobic, facultatively anaerobic. Small (0.5 mm in diameter), grey
alpha-hemolytic colonies on sheep blood agar after overnight incubation at 37 ºC in
5% CO2 . Growth media: Trypticase soy agar with 5% sheep blood, Brain heart
infusion agar or broth.
