Takada et al. 2013.
Member of the "Mutans group".
No reaction with Lancefield antisera (Oxoid kit).
Gram-positive, nonspore-forming cocci, occurring in pairs or short chains.
Colonies on blood agar are small and white, 0.75-1.0 mm in diameter and
non-haemolytic at 37 ºC for 24 h. Forms small, dark blue, crinkled colonies on MS.
Facultatively anaerobic.
Isolated from clinical specimens from donkey oral cavities. Resistant to bacitracin.
Undetermined. Produces glucosyltransferase involved in dental plaque formation (a water-insoluble glucan is produced by this enzyme
from sucrose).

sp. nov. and Streptococcus dentasini sp. nov., isolated from the oral cavity of donkeys. Int. J. Syst. Evol. Microbiol., 63, 2782-2786.
A water-insoluble glucan is produced from sucrose by glucosyltransferase.
