Gram-positive cocci occuring in pairs or small clusters. Non-spore-forming.
Non-motile.
Colonies are 3-4 mm in diameter after 48 h of growth on Colombia blood agar with
5% sheep blood at 35 ºC, have a zone of complete haemolysis of 1 mm and are
grey-yellow, yellow or yellow-orange, smooth and glistening. Facultatively anaerobic.
Isolated from milk (1 strain) and teat apices of dairy cows (9 strains). Sensitive to novobiocin.

Negative results for alkaline phosphatase, coagulase, clumping factor, DN-ase, beta-glucuronidase, beta-galactosidase, oxidase,
pyrrolidonyl aminopeptidase, acid production from: amygdalin, D-adonitol, arabinose, arabitol, cellobiose, erythritol, D-fucose,
gentiobiose, raffinose, salicin, D-sorbitol, D-tagatose, xylitol & xylose.
Variable results for aesculin ferric citrate reaction, nitrate reduction, urease, acid production from: D-mannitol, D-mannose,
melezitose & glycerol.
