Morais et al. 2008. Single species of the genus.
Gram-positive cocci. Non-motile. Non-spore-forming.
Colonies are small, smooth, glistening, convex, circular and light yellow in colour after
2 days incubation on BHI Agar and produce a diffusible pigment in cultures older than
72 hours in the presence of NaCl. Growth occurs in media without added NaCl and
with NaCl up to 10 % (w/v). Cell aggregates are formed in liquid medium during
growth without NaCl. Optimal growth temperature is 30-37 ºC (range 30-45 ºC.
Optimal pH for growth is 7.5-8.0. Does not grow anaerobically.
Isolated from the transfer spike of a bottle containing physiological saline.
Undetermined.

Positive results for alkaline phosphatase (weak), catalase, ester lipase (C8), esterase (C4) (weak), gelatin hydrolysis, oxidase, weak
acid production from L-arabinose (tested by API NE).

Negative results for acid phosphatase, nitrates reduction, urease, acid production from mannose, mannitol, ribose, sucrose and
other substrates using API 50 CH.
