Member of the
Mycobacterium terrae complex.
Species description is based on a single isolate. Not validly published.
Acid-alcohol-fast rods, with frequent bent shapes. Nonspore-forming. Filaments are
not observed.
Colonies are rough, nonpigmented and require 3 weeks or more to grow mature on
Lowenstein–Jensen medium. Grows at temperature 28 and 37 ºC. Grows on 5%
media supplemented with 5% (w/v) NaCl, but not MacConkey agar or picric acid
media.
Isolated from human sputum samples, in China.
Resistant to thiophene-2-carboxylic acid hydrazide (TCH), isoniazid, streptomycin, rifampin, euteropas, protionamide, capromycin,
ciprofloxacin, amikacin and levofloxacin. Susceptible to ethambutol and para-nitrobenzoic acid.
Opportunistic pathogen.

analysis of a novel non-tuberculous mycobacterium clinical isolate with nine-antibiotic resistance. Clin Microbiol Infect 2013; 19:
    91-96.
Positive results for Tween-80 hydrolysis (10 days), iron absorption (7 days), and urease.

Negative results for  arylsulphatase (9 days), catalase, nicotinic acid, nitrate reductase, phosphatase and tellurite reduction.
