Species description is based on a single isolate.
Acid-fast rods, frequently curved. Non-spore-forming. Filaments not produced.
Colonies are smooth and orange on Middlebrook 7H10 agar at 25 ºC; optimum
growth at 30 ºC and no growth at 37 or 45 ºC. No growth on media containing PNB
500 mg/ml, 5% NaCl, picric acid or on MacConkey agar without crystal violet.
Isolated from a human sputum sample, in Seoul, Korea. Resistant to TCH. Susceptible to ethambutol.
Undetermined. Isolated from a patient with a symptomatic pulmonary infection.

Positive results for arylsulfatase (after 14 days), heat stable catalase, tellurite reductase, Tween 80 hydrolysis (within 10 days),
pyrazinamidase and urease.
Negative results for niacin accumulation, nitrate reductase, arylsulfatase (after 3 days) and Tween 80 hydrolysis (within 5 days).
