Acid-fast. Non-motile. Non-spore-forming.
Colonies on on blood agar are large, smooth / mucoid, unpigmented and develop in
3-5 days at temperatures ranging from 25 to 37 °C. Grows on McConkey agar without
crystal violet.
Isolated from haemodialysis water in an Iranian hospital and from sputum.
Resistant to isoniazid (1 µg/ml ) and thiacetazone (10 µg/ml), tobramycin, doxycycline, minocycline, cefoxitin, and imipenem.
Susceptible to p-nitrobenzoic acid (400 µg/ml), trimethoprim-sulfamethoxazole, linezolid, ciprofloxacin, moxifloxacin, amikacin,
tigecycline, and clarithromycin.
