Phylum Firmicutes, Class Bacilli, Order Bacillales, Family Listeriaceae, Genus Listeria, Listeria floridensis Den Bakker et al. 2014.
Gram-positive, straight rods with rounded ends, 0.6 x 1.3-1.9 µm. Non-motile at 4,
22, 30 or 37 ºC.
Colonies resemble typical Listeria colonies morphology. Optimum growth
temperature is 37-41 ºC. No growth at 7 ºC or below. Hemolysis is not produced.
CAMP-negative. Aerobic and facultative anaerobic. Grows well on BHI agar.
Isolated from running water in Florida, USA.

L-arabinose, cellobiose, D-fructose, D-galactose, methyl alpha-D-glucoside, D-glucose, lactose, D-lyxose, maltose, D-mannose,
L-rhamnose, salicin D-xylose
Negative results for arylamidase, alpha-mannosidase, nitrate reduction, Voges-Proskauer test, acid production from: D-arabinose,
D-arabitol, D-adonitol, L-fucose, glycogen, glycerol, glucose 1-phosphate, gluconate, 2- and 5-ketogluconate, inositol, inulin,
D-mannitol, melezitose, melibiose, methyl alpha-D-mannopyranoside, raffinose, D-ribose, L-sorbose, sucrose, D-tagatose, turanose
& methyl beta-D-xylopyranoside.
