Gram-positive straight rods, 0.12-0.30 x 0.30-0.50 µm. Non-motile. Non-spore-forming.
Colonies are flat, pale yellow after 2 days of incubation at 37 ºC on MRS agar. Grows
at 1
5-40 ºC; optimum temperature is 30-37 ºC. Can grow in pH 4.0-9.0 and NaCl 0-
1
0%. Facultative anaerobic.
Isolated from Zha-Chili, a traditional fermented food made in China.
Undetermined.
Homofermentative.
Description is based mostly on API 50 CHL (bioMerieux) results.
