Gram-positive rods, 0.5 / 3.0-8.0 µm, occuring singly or in pairs. Non-motile.
Colonies on supplemented MRS agar (0.1% L-cysteine and 2% fructose) are white,
opaque, with a smooth to rough surface, raised, moist, 2-3 mm in diameter, under
anaerobic conditions after 3 days at 35 ºC. Grows at 15 and 50 ºC; no growth at 5 ºC.
Facultative anaerobe; grows well on supplemented MRS agar under aerobic
conditions. Range of pH 3.0-12.0 (in supplemented MRS broth).
Isolated from the honey stomach of the honeybee, Apis mellifera mellifera.

Positive results for acid phosphatase, beta-glucosidase, leucine arylamidase, N-acetyl-beta-glucosaminidase (weak reaction), valine
