Gram-positive rods, 1 x 3.5-6 µm, occurring singly, in pairs or in short chains.
Non-motile. Non-spore-forming.
Colonies are smooth, beige, 1 mm in diameter after 2 days of incubation at 30 ºC on
mMRS agar. Can grow at 37 ºC, optimum at 30-32 ºC. ; no growth at  at 45 ºC. N
o
growth in
5% NaCl. Grows at pH 5.0, optimum at pH 6.0-8.0, but not at pH 11.0.
Facultative anaerobic.
Isolated from suancai, a traditional pickle in China. Tellurite tolerant.
