Gram-positive straight rods, 1 x 1.5-3 µm, occurring singly or in short chains.
Colonies are rough, beige, 1.5-2 mm in diameter after 2 days of incubation at 30 ºC
on mMRS agar. Grows at 15-37 ºC, pH 5.0, and NaCl 0-5%. Facultative anaerobic.
Isolated from traditional pickle in China. Tellurite tolerance.
Description is based mostly on API 50 CHL (bioMerieux) results.
Positive results for arginine deamination, esculin hydrolysis, H2S production, acid production from amygdalin, arbutin, cellobiose, D-
fructose, galactose, gentibiose, glucose (without gas production), lactose, maltose, mannose, methyl alpha-D-glucopyranoside,
methyl alpha-D-mannopyranoside, salicin, sucrose, trehalose, D-tagatose, and N-acetylglucosamine.
Negative results for catalase, hippurate hydrolysis, indole production, nitrate reduction, nitrite reduction, pyrrolidonyl arylamidase,
pyruvate utilisation, urease, Voges-Proskauer test, acid production from adonitol, D- and L-arabitol, D- and L-arabinose, dulcitol,
erythritol, esculin, D- and L-fucose, gluconate, 2- and 5-ketogluconate, glycogen, glycerol, inositol, inulin, D-lyxose, mannitol,
melezitose, melibiose, raffinose, ribose, rhamnose, L-sorbose, sorbitol, starch, turanose, methyl alpha-D-xyloside, methyl beta-D-
xylopyranoside, xylitol, D- and L-xylose.
