Gram-negative, short rods. Variable motility at 28 ºC (four out of the six strains,
including the type strain, are not motile on MMN semisolid medium).
Colonies on CIN agar are small, circular, 5 mm in diameter and have a deep red
centre surrounded by a transparent pale border. Colonies on TSA are beige, smooth
and convex.
Isolated from human stool.

Positive results for catalase, beta-galactosidase, lipase, nitrate reduction, pyrazinamidase, urease, acid production from:
L-arabinose, D-arabitol, cellobiose, L-fucose,fructose, glycerol, glucose, gluconate, 5-ketogluconate, mannose, mannitol, maltose,
N-acetylglucosamine, ribose, sorbitol, trehalose and D-xylose.
Negative results for arginine dihydrolase, gelatinase, esterase, H2S production, lipase, lysine decarboxylase, tryptophan deaminase,
oxidase, Voges-Proskauer test, acid production from: amygdalin, D-arabinose, adonitol, D- and L-arabitol, dulcitol, erythritol, aesculin,
D- and L-fucose, glycogen, inulin, D-lyxose, melibiose, melezitose, methyl alpha-D-mannoside, methyl alpha-D-glucoside, methyl
beta-D-xylopyranoside, D-raffinose, L-rhamnose, salicin, starch, sucrose, D-tagatose, turanose, xylitol and L-xylose.
Variable results for citrate utilization, indole production, acid production from: arbutin, inositol, 2-ketogluconate, lactose and
L-sorbose.
