 Murros-Kontiainen et al. 2011.
Gram-negative rods of 1-3 mm in diameter. Non-motile. Non-spore-forming.
Produces circular, convex, pinpoint colonies on blood agar at 30 ºC in 24 h. Grows on
blood, tryptic soy, MacConkey and nutrient agar at 25–37 ºC.
Isolated from water, soil and lettuce samples.

Description is based mostly on API 20 E (Biomerieux) results.
Yersinia pekkanenii cannot be differentiated from Yersinia pseudotuberculosis by using only API 20 E tests.

Positive results for catalase, beta-galactosidase (ONPG), urea hydrolysis, acid production from: amygdalin, L-arabinose, cellobiose,
glucose, lactose (weak), mannitol, trehalose and D-xylose.

Negative results for citrate utilization, aesculin hydrolysis, H
2S production, indole production, lipase, lysine decarboxylase, ornithine
decarboxylase, Voges-Proskauer reaction, oxidase, acid production from: adonitol, glycerol, inositol, melibiose, raffinose, rhamnose,
sorbose, salicin, sorbitol and sucrose.
