Gram-negative, motile, coccoid rods.
Small, gray-white, opaque, irregular colonies, 0.1 to 1.0 mm in diameter after 24
hours incubation. Facultatively anaerobic.
Isolated from the faeces of humans, rats, moles, reindeer and pigs, and from dairy products.

Species description is based mostly on API 20 E (BioMerieux) results.
Positive results for catalase, lysine decarboxylase, ONPG, ornithine decarboxylase, nitrate reduction, urease, acid production from:
L-arabinose, cellobiose, lactose, mannitol, sorbitol and D-xylose.
Negative results for arginine dihydrolase, citrate utilization, esculin hydrolysis, gelatinase, H2S production, malonate utilization,
tryptophan deaminase, Voges-Proskauer test, acid production from: melibiose, L-rhamnose, raffinose, salicin, and sucrose.
Variable results for indole production, acid production from: glycerol, inositol sorbose and trehalose.
