Gram-negative rods. Motile. Non‐spore-forming.
Colonies are circular, white, translucent, raised, and smooth after 24 h of incubation
at 35 ºC on nutrient agar. Growth occurs at 4 to 37 ºC with optimal growth at 35 and 37
ºC, but not at 45 or 50 ºC. Cells grows in the presence of 0-9% (w/v) NaCl in tryptic soy
broth (TSB). Facultatively anaerobic.
Isolated from human blood.

subsp. xiangfangensis comb. nov., Enterobacter roggenkampii sp. nov., and Enterobacter muelleri is a later heterotypic synonym

Positive results for arginine dihydrolase, catalase, citrate utilization, ONPG, ornithine decarboxylase, Voges-Proskauer test, acid
production from amygdalin, L-arabinose, D-fructose, glycerol, D-galactose, D-glucose, 2-ketogluconate, inositol, D-mannose,
D-mannitol, melibiose, methyl-alpha-D-glucopyranoside, L-rhamnose, D-ribose, D-sorbitol, sucrose, and D-xylose.
Negative results for gelatin hydrolysis, H2S production, indole production, lysine decarboxylase, oxidase, tryptophan deaminase,
urease, acid production from D-adonitol, D-arabinose, D-arabitol, dulcitol, erythritol, L-fucose, gluconate,
methyl-alpha-D-mannopyranoside, D-turanose, and L-xylose.
