Gram-positive pleomorphic (frequently swollen at one or both ends) rods, developing
coccoid forms in stationary cultures. Non-motile. Non-spore-forming. Mycolic acids
are produced. Tuberculostearic acid is present.
Colonies on trypto casein soy agar supplemented with Tween 80 are convex, whitish,
glistening with entire edges and 1 mm in diameter after 24-48 hours at 37 ºC.
Non-haemolytic. Facultatively anaerobic.
Isolated from clinical and food samples.
Undetermined.

Description is based on API CORYNE and API 50CH tests.
Fermentative metabolism.
Positive results for catalase, esterase (C4), lipophilism, pyrazinamidase, acid production from: fructose, galactose, glucose,
glycerol, 5-ketogluconate, mannose & ribose.
Negative results for aesculin hydrolysis, DNase, alpha- and beta-galactosidase, beta-glucuronidase alpha- and beta-glucosidase,
N-acetyl-beta-glucosaminidase, gelatin hydrolysis, hippurate hydrolysis, oxidase, lipase C14, pyrrolidonyl arylamidase, trypsin,
chymotrypsin, urease, acid production from: glycogen, inulin, lactose, mannitol, sorbitol, starch & xylose.
Variable results for acid phosphatase, alkaline phosphatase, cystine arylamidase, ester lipase (C8), leucine arylamidase, nitrate
reduction, valine arylamidase, acid production from: maltose, gluconate, N-acetyl-beta-glucosamine, sucrose & trehalose.
