Gram-positive coryneform rods. Non-motile. Non-spore-forming. Tuberculostearic
acid is not present. Mycolic acids are present.
Colonies are whitish, low-convex, smooth and approximately 1-2 mm in diameter
after 48 h incubation at 37 ºC on sheep-blood agar. CAMP-positive. Facultatively
anaerobic.
Isolated from the cloacae of apparently healthy wild magellanic penguins.
Undetermined.

Description is based on API CORYNE (2000324), API 50CH and API ZYM tests.
Fermentative metabolism.

Positive results for catalase, cystine arylamidase, esterase (C4), ester lipase (C8), leucine arylamidase (weak reaction), lipase,
pyrazinamidase, acid production from: fructose, glucose (at 37 and 42 ºC), N-acetyl-beta-glucosamine, maltose, mannose, ribose, &
trehalose.

Negative results for acid phosphatase, alkaline phosphatase, aesculin hydrolysis, chymotrypsin, alpha- and beta-galactosidase,
alpha- and beta-glucosidase, beta-glucuronidase, N-acetyl-beta-glucosaminidase, gelatin hydrolysis, lipophilic reaction, nitrate
reduction,  pyrrolidonyl arylamidase, trypsin, urease, valine arylamidase, acid production from: D- and L-arabinose, arabitol, arbutin,
adonitol, amygdalin, cellobiose, erythritol, L- and D-fucose, galactose, gentiobiose, glycerol, glycogen, 2- and 5-ketogluconate,
inositol, inulin, lactose, lyxose, mannitol, melezitose, melibiose, raffinose, rhamnose, salicin, sorbitol, L- sorbose, sucrose, tagatose,
