Gram-positive short rods with bluntly rounded ends, 0.5-0.75 / 0.95-1.3 µm, usually
singly or in pairs joined end to end. Non-motile. Non-spore-forming. Mycolic acids are
not present.
Grows very poorly on nutrient agar, heavier on nutrient glucose agar; grows only when
densely seeded. Growth is better and faster on cooked potato. Colonies differ in size,
are bright yellow, opaque, entire and convex. Obligately aerobic.
Grows at 16-35 ºC, optimum at 24-28 ºC. No growth at 10 or 37 ºC. No growth in 5%
NaCl media. Variable growth in 0.030% potassium tellurite.
Isolated from cocksfoot grass (Dactylis glomerata). Susceptible to iranicin (bacteriocin of  Rathayibacter iranicus).
Pathogenic, causes a gumming disease of inflorescences of cocksfoot grass (Dactylis glomerata).

Positive results for catalase, citrate utilisation, esculin hydrolysis, H
2S production, Tween 21, 40, 85 hydrolysis, acid production from
xylose.

Negative results for casein hydrolysis, hippurate hydrolysis, lipase, nitrate reduction, tyrosine hydrolysis, Tween 60, 65, 80 hydrolysis,
urease, acid production from: dulcitol, galactose, glucose, inositol, inulin, lactose, maltose, mannose, melezitose, melibiose,
rhamnose, ribose, sorbitol & sucrose.

Variable results for gelatinase, methyl red, starch hydrolysis, Voges-Proskauer reaction, acid production from fructose & mannitol.
