Species description is based on a single isolate.
Gram-positive rods with occasional swellings. Non-motile. Non-spore-forming.
Mycolic acids are present. Tuberculostearic acid is not produced.
Colonies on sheep blood TSA are convex, translucent and small (0.3-0.5 mm in
diameter) after 2 days at 37 ºC. Grow in BHI broth supplemented with 1% Tween 80
or 5% rabbit serum. growth at 37 ºC (optimum) and 42 ºC , not at 20 ºC. CAMP test
is negative. Facultatively anaerobic.
Isolated from a human groin abscess accompanied by strains of Actinomyces radingae, Propionibacterium avidum and
Propionibacterium acnes.
Susceptible to the vibriostatic agent O/129 and highly sensitive to ampicillin, ceftriaxone, clindamycin and erythromycin.

Description is based on API CORYNE (2200725) and API ZYM results.
Fermentative metabolism. Pyruvic acid is the major metabolic intermediate during the metabolic cycle.
Positive results for catalase (strong reaction), esterase (C4), esterase lipase (C8), leucine arylamidase, lipophilism, pyrazinamidase,
pyrrolidonyl arylamidase (weak reaction), acid production from: glucose, maltose, ribose (weak reaction), sucrose & xylose.
Negative results for acid phosphatase, alkaline phosphatase, alpha-chymotrypsin, cystine arylamidase, alpha-fucosidase, gelatin
hydrolysis, alpha- and beta-galactosidase, alpha- and beta-glucosidase, beta-glucuronidase, N-acetyl- beta-glucosaminidase,
beta-lactamase, lipase, alpha-mannosidase, nitrate reduction, trypsin, urease, valine arylamidase, acid production from: fructose,
glycogen, lactose & mannitol.
