Synonym: Arthrobacter nasiphocae Collins, Hoyles, Foster, Falsen and Weiss, 2002.
Gram-positive irregular-shaped rods, coccoid forms may be observed. Spores are
not produced.
Colonies are greyish-white, smooth; 1 mm in diameter after 24 h of incubation at 37
ºC on blood agar. No haemolysis. Strictly aerobic. Grows at 25 and 42 ºC. Can grow in
5% NaCl, but not in 10% NaCl.
Isolated from the nasal cavities of common seal (Phoca vitulina) in mixed culture with Corynebacterium phocae, Pseudomonas
aeruginosa, Staphylococcus aureus and coagulase-negative staphylococci.
Undetermined.

Some tests are based on API CORYNE (profile 6112004).
Positive results for acid phosphatase, alkaline phosphatase, catalase, esterase (C4) (weak reaction), hippurate hydrolysis,
alpha-glucosidase, gelatin hydrolysis, leucine arylamidase, phosphoamidase & pyrazinamidase.
Negative results for chymotrypsin, cystine arylamidase, esculin hydrolysis, esterase lipase (C8), alpha-fucosidase, alpha- and
beta-galactosidase, beta-glucosidase, beta-glucuronidase, N-acetyl-glucosaminidase, lipase, alpha-mannosidase, nitrate reduction,
trypsin, urease, valine arylamidase & Voges-Proskauer test (acetoin is not produced), acid production from: glucose, glycogen,
lactose, mannitol, maltose, ribose, sucrose & xylose.
