Gram-positive cells. Non-motile. Non-spore-forming.
Colonies are white, 0.5-1.0 mm in diameter on MRS agar supplemented with cysteine
and fructose. Alpha-hemolytic activity. Grows at temperature 25-40 ºC (optimum 35 ºC),
pH 4.5-9.0 (optimum pH 6.5). Anaerobic.
Isolated from gut samples of carpenter bees (Xylocopa violacea), Italy.
Commensal with alpha-haemolytic activity.

Positive results for arginine arylamidase, alpha-fucosidase, alpha- and beta-galactosidase, beta-glucosidase, histidine arylamidase,
leucine arylamidase, phenylalanine arylamidase, proline arylamidase, tyrosine arylamidase, acid production from L-arabinose
(weakly), arbutin (weakly), esculin, D-fructose, D-ribose, salicin, and sucrose.
Negative results for alkaline phosphatase, arginine dihydrolase, catalase, beta-glucuronidase, indole production,
N-acetyl-beta-glucosaminidase, oxidase, acid production from D-adonitol, D- and L-arabitol, amygdalin, cellobiose, dulcitol, erythritol,
D- and L-fucose, D-galactose, glycogen, gluconate, glycerol, gentiobiose, 2- and 5-ketogluconate, inositol, inulin, D-lactose, D-lyxose,
maltose, D-mannose, D-mannitol, melezitose, methyl alpha-D-glucopyranoside, methyl alpha-D-mannopyranoside,
N-acetylglucosamine, raffinose, rhamnose, D-sorbitol, L-sorbose, starch, tagatose, trehalose, turanose, methyl beta-D-xylopyranoside,
xylitol, and D-xylose.
Variable results for alpha-glucosidase, alanine arylamidase, acid production from D-glucose and melibiose.
