Gram-positive short and irregular rods or coccoid cells.
Colonies are rough, slightly convex and white after 24 hours of anaerobic incubation
on Brucella HK blood agar
. Growth also occurs on LBS (lactobacillus selective) and
CFAT (TSB, glucose, cadmium sulfate, sodium fluoride, neutral acriflavine, potassium
tellurite, basic fuchsin, defibrinated sheep blood-selective medium for actinomycetes)
agars. Growth temperature 2
5-45 ºC, optimum 37 ºC. Facultatively anaerobic.
Isolated from dental plaque from hamsters fed with a high-carbohydrate diet.
