Gram-positive rods of various shapes forming a branched structure with ‘Y’ at both
sides, 1.0-1.5 / 5-8 µm. Non-motile. Non-spore-forming.
Colonies are white, smooth, opaque, 1-2 mm in diameter after 3 days of anaerobic
incubation on TPY agar. Non-haemolytic. Can grow at 22-48 ºC, optimally at 45 ºC,
not at 20 ºC. Grows at pH 4.0-7.5, optimally at pH 6.5. Facultatively anaerobic.
Isolated from the faeces of an adult emperor tamarin (Saguinus imperator).

arbutin, cellobiose, esculin, D-fructose, D-galactose (weak), gentibiose (weak), D-glucose, lactose, maltose (weak), melibiose,
raffinose, salicin and sucrose.
Negative results for alkaline phosphatase, alanine arylamidase, catalase, alpha-fucosidase, glycine arylamidase, beta-glucuronidase,
indole production, nitrate reduction, N-acetyl-beta-glucosaminidase, oxidase, urease, acid production from adonitol, D- and L-arabitol,
