Phylum “Actinobacteria”, Class Actinobacteria, Order Bifidobacteriales, Family Bifidobacteriaceae, Genus Bifidobacterium,
Bifidobacterium bombi Killer, Kopecny, Mrazek, Rada, Benada, Koppova, Havlik and Straka, 2009.
Gram-positive short and irregular rods, 0.4-0.5 x 0.9-1.1 µm; frequently forming
filaments and bifurcations. Non-spore-forming. Non-motile.
Colonies are white, low convex with sharp, undulate edges, 1.0-1.7 mm in diameter
after 3 days of incubation under anaerobic conditions on TPY agar. Grows at
temperature 10-37 ºC (optimum 30 ºC; weak growth at 45 ºC), pH 5.0-7.0. Strictly
anaerobic.
Isolated from the digestive tract contents of a bumblebee (Bombus lucorum), Czech Republic.
