Gram-positive rods of various shapes in TPY broth coiled or ring shaped or forming a
‘Y’ shape at both ends. Non-motile. Non-spore-forming.
Colonies are circular with entire margins, white, opaque, smooth and 1.7-2.5 mm in
diameter on TPY agar after 3 days of anaerobic incubation. Non-haemolytic. Growth
temperature 25-4
2 ºC, optimum 35-37 ºC. Grows at pH 4.5-7.0, optimum pH 6.5-7.0.
Microaerophilic
; can grow in milk under aerobic, microaerophilic and anaerobic
conditions
.
Isolated from he faeces of infant common marmosets (Callithrix jacchus L.) kept in animal houses in Italy.
