Gram-positive rods of various shapes in TPY broth coiled or ring shaped or forming a
‘Y’ shape at both ends. Non-motile. Non-spore-forming.
Colonies are circular with entire margins, white, opaque, smooth and 1.7-2.5 mm in
diameter on TPY agar after 3 days of anaerobic incubation. Non-haemolytic. Growth
temperature 25-42 ºC, optimum 35-37 ºC. Grows at pH 4.5-7.0, optimum pH 6.5-7.0.
Microaerophilic; can grow in milk under aerobic, microaerophilic and anaerobic

Negative results for alanine arylamidase, catalase, citrate utilization, alpha-arabinosidase, alpha-fucosidase, alpha-galactosidase,
beta-glucuronidase, H2S production, histidine arylamidase, indole, leucine arylamidase, lysine decarboxylase, nitrate reduction, N-
acetyl-beta-glucosaminidase, ornithine decarboxylase, oxidase, serine arylamidase, tyrosine arylamidase, acid production from D-
adonitol, amygdalin, D-arabinose, L-arabitol, dulcitol, erythritol, methyl alpha-D-glucopyranoside, inositol, methyl alpha-D-

Variable results for arginine dihydrolase, acid production from cellobiose, D-fructose, D-galactose, gluconate, glycogen, glycerol,
